"Sorry"
A Performance Installation.
“What am I sorry for? Sorry for not equalling the glossy images of women, images that are simulations of our collective fantasy. Sorry for performing the rituals which should keep me in line with an idea of a standard set down by people unknown.
Inviting the audience into her world, she lets us explore her whimsical beliefs – her behaviour, clothes, emotions and drinking problems.”
Using repetition, satirical actions and a tub of red paint, the performer enters a cycle of everyday actions that represent society’s view of women and her responses. With the word “sorry” painted across a large cloth that is placed on the floor she moves between the cloth and chair wearing a long ball gown, taking her hair down, placing it back up, swaying in her heels to dancing bear foot, shaving with paint, showering in wine to and finally literally, painting on her smile.
